10 Helpful Hints For Curating Your Wedding Flowers With The Honey Seeker Floral Design
You’re engaged and excited to get started on all the plans! But it’s not long before you realise there are quite a few different aspects to the wedding planning process, all of which need a fair bit of thought, and some of which you may have next to no idea about!
Well, here’s a few tips for when it comes to the flowers…
1 : Decide on your budget
First things first, discuss your total wedding budget and set a figure. Being on board with each other will save disagreements down the line, and will help guide you when selecting your suppliers.
Next choose the date you’d like to get married.
Then choose your venue – some venues come with wedding packages and a list of suppliers to choose from.
Once these steps are confirmed you can look to book your florist. Your venue will set the overall look and feel for your day, and your flowers will tie everything together and accentuate your venue.
Usually florists book up about 12-18 months in advance, so if you have a particular designer in mind get in touch sooner rather than later!
Having a shorter engagement? Get in touch anyway! There’s no harm in asking and they will always try to accommodate you if they have availability. And we are no exception.
2 : Research your florist
Take a look at their social media pages and website for pictures of their work – does their style reasonate with you? Do you like their work ethic? What are their response times like? Are they close to your venue?
Choosing a floral designer located near to your venue will help cut down on travel and delivery costs.
We will also do onsite visits with you, to walk through and visualise the space to help plan and create exactly what you want.
3 : Don’t worry if you don’t have specific details when you get in touch
You don’t need to have everything finely tuned before contacting us – you don’t even need to know anything about flowers!
At The Honey Seeker we will guide you through what is in season, what arrangements works best, and how to get the most out of your budget.
4 : Have reference photos
That said, it can be helpful to bring some images along of styles you like, to ensure we are both envisaging the same vibe and are on the same page with the styling.
Have a think about the arrangements you know you definitely want.
Consider the way you want your centrepieces to look – guests should still be able to talk over or through them, so keep them low or elevate them above head height.
Have you already chosen your dress? Your flowers should enhance you and your look – we can help advise on different shaped bouquets and floral textures.
We will talk through all the options at your consultation, discuss the pieces you’d like, ask if there are particular flowers that hold meaning for you, and any arrangements you have your heart set on.

Investments – it can give greater impact when you invest in a few signature pieces, creating more atmosphere. Consider your venue – beautiful locations don’t necessarily need flowers flowing over every surface, what does it actually need to accentuate it? We can help advise with this.
7: Share your vision!
Be confident with telling us what you love and want! There are no rules, so you do you. Use this opportunity to express yourself and the things that are really important to you. This applies to every aspect of your wedding, not just your flowers.
When it comes to your flowers, don’t be afraid to go bold. Incorporate a broader range of colours and tones outside of your selected colour scheme – this will compliment and enhance your palette.
Include items that have meaning for you, that reflect your culture, how you met, remembering loved ones etc… flowers come with their own meanings.
At The Honey Seeker, we use exclusively British grown flowers, so fresh is always seasonal, and there is a whole world of stunning choices outside of Roses and Gypsophila. Broaden your floral choices for more individuality and let nature guide the designs for a more organic look. We can advise on what will be in season at the time.
Don’t forget candles, tea lights, and fairy lights for the ultimate romantic vibe!
8 : Let your florist know all the timings
When you know the timings of your day, let your florist know.
We need to know what access we can have to the venue, the timings we can go in to set up and clear down, and of any venue restrictions. (If we have worked at your venue before, we will be familiar with the way they work too).
These details don’t need to be set by the time you have your consultation, but keep your florist in the loop as the details get ironed out along the planning process.
Let them know who your other suppliers are – do you have a wedding planner? The venue co-ordinator? The photographer, cake maker, videographer? All of these details are super helpful and we can liaise with each other about behind the scenes plans on your day.
9 : Ask all the questions
Ask your florist anything you want and everything on your mind. It’s always best to be sure. Nothing is too small or insignificant and it is always best we are on the same page.
Other questions to consider asking can be if your florist has a minimum spend? What is included in the price? Do they offer prop hire? Do you get to keep the flowers afterwards? Where have the flowers come from?
10 : It’s all about you!
Remember – this is your day, it is all about you and your wants and wishes. Don’t let anyone else decide what you need to have or feel you should do things a certain way to keep others happy.
Planning your wedding should be fun, so let us take care of the flowers and turn your concept into your beautiful wedding reality!
