Seasonal British Flowers, June 2023
A few drops of rain and the flora has burst into bloom!
Lots of exciting things are happening behind the scenes in the business at the moment, creative ideas are floating around and plans are being put into place for the future.
We went to Glastonbury Festival which inspired me to decorate my face with real pressed flowers, I loved how they looked and they lasted all day and all night too…perhaps a little side product in the pipelines.

I also met Sue – a flower farmer who owns Fosse Farm Flowers, Somerset, and had a lovely site tour. It was great to chat to a like minded grower and florist who is so aware of the environmental impacts floristry is having on the planet and making conscious changes to the industry.
This month I was able to take a stem from one of my roses I planted back in April – a spray from Champagne Moment went into a gift bouquet, which was very exciting. I wasn’t expecting to cut any stems from these this year as I want to let them get well established, but this bush is doing particularly well and had an amazingly long stem and big healthy blooms!

Gift bouquets aren’t in the list of products I generally sell, but I have been getting quite a few enquiries for these just lately so perhaps something I should consider incorporating? Watch out on the Shop page.
For now though, onto the seasonal British flowers you can expect for a June wedding:
– Alstroemeria – always.
– Agapanthus – a ball of mini bell shaped flowers.
– Alliums – purple balls, fantastic structure, true cottage garden feel.
– Ammi – large or small, fluffy frothy plates of tiny white flowers.
– Campanula – delicate bells of purple or white flowers.
– Cornflower – beautiful little round filler flowers in various colours.
– Daisies – for a cottage garden look and relaxed feel.
– Grasses – a whole variety of grasses in different styles, don’t forget these to add amazing textures!
– Gypsophila – White sprays, also known as Baby’s Breath.
– Iris – big floppy flowers with amazing scent.
– Larkspur – tall spires of flowers similar to delphiniums.
– Limonium – sprays of tiny varied colour flowers, fantastic filler and amazing for drying.
– Nigella – star shaped blue, white, or pink flowers with tiny tendrils. One of my favourites.
– Peony – who could forget these? Only lasting a few weeks of the year, if you are getting married in June make the most of these huge beautiful blousy blooms!
– Roses – need no explanation, British roses have the most amazing scent.
– Scabious – similar to cornflower, but larger and more frilly, often in bluey purple colours.
– Oriental Lilies – everyone knows a lily, ever popular.
– Snapdragons – small frilly flowers for a beautiful gardenesque feel.
– Stocks – unbeatable for scent!
– Sunflowers – such an exciting time of year for the sunflowers to be out!
– Sweet Peas – small and delicate flowers that pack a punch in the scent department! Makes a beautiful bouquet just on their own and in almost any colour.
– Sweet William – and other Dianthus, delicate scent and frilly flowers.
– Veronica – tall spiked stems of flowers.
Many other flowers such as Echinops, Salvia, Phlox, Linaria, Eryngium, Achillia, and many more are just starting to come out towards the end of June as well.
