I said “Yes!” What next? (How to book your wedding florist).

Congratulations! Your beloved popped the question, you said yes, and now you’re all tingly with excitement and anticipation. Planning your dream wedding is so much fun! Pinterest is clouding your vision with stunning scenery filled with fluffy flowers, magazines are blooming with gorgeous designs, everyone you talk to has their own suggestions. But where do you actually start and, most importantly (if I do say so myself as a florist), how do you plan your wedding flowers?

Hold up! Before you go anywhere, have a little chat with each other and agree on your overall vision and budget for the day. Decide on the time of year, and a location you both love.

Once you have decided on a venue and secured a date with them, you can start booking in calls with suppliers. Most suppliers, including florists, will need a date and location confirmed before they start planning with you. But now the magic can really start happening as each one helps you realise your dream.

Now you’re ready to book your florist – consider reaching out to me! I always love a cup of tea and chat about flowers; the best bits are hearing about your love story and favourite things and working out how to incorporate this into your designs, then afterwards hearing all about your big day.

A few pointers to help you decide which florists to reach out to:

1) Ask your venue if they have recommended suppliers, reach out to married friends whose flowers you loved on their day, or Google florists local to your venue.

2) Have a good look through florist’s websites and social media, see if you like their style and if they align with you – do their values and personality speak to you?

3) Do they use locally grown, British flowers? Seasonal British flowers are better for the environment, will give your designs a truly unique feel (and smell amazing!), and in turn support other local businesses.

4) Try to be open minded about the price at this stage – it is good to set a budget for flowers but be aware that they may cost more than you first expected. It is really hard for florists to put definitive prices on their websites because every arrangement is different depending on the couples ideas. A good florist will help you put together a package to suit you and suggest ways you can make arrangements go further. Typically couples spend around 10% of their overall wedding budget on flowers, but this may be more if you are going for Pinterest inspired abundance.
