Wedding Flower Preservation: What you need for your consultation

Your wedding flowers are a limited edition – no two bouquets are ever the same and, with The Honey Seeker Floral Design, the most important floral arrangement you’ll ever have can now be transformed into an exclusive work of art.

My name is Esme, and I specialise in preserving flowers to allow their beauty to flourish long after your wedding, bringing you joy as it reminds you of your special day, and a touch of luxury to your home.

Preserving your flowers starts with a conversation where we will discuss the look you want your bouquet to encompass after it has been preserved and framed. It isn’t just about the flowers though, so in this post I want to give a quick breakdown of things to think about ahead of our call.

There is more than one way to dry a flower. You can have them pressed so they are flat, or you can have them dried 3-dimensionally which retains a closer look to the fresh flower. Or you can have both! There’s nothing to say you have to limit yourself to one or the other.
Things to think about here are:
– Pressed flowers will go into a regular sized frame of normal depth, much like a picture.
– 3D or a mixture of both need to go into a box frame, will is much deeper and will stand out a little further from the wall.

You can have your bouquet replicated in the frame to give a realistic representation of how your flowers looked on your wedding day. Or, you can deconstruct your bouquet and have an impression of your wedding flowers but with a really contemporary feel. Are there any other elements you want to include – such as your invitation, part of your wedding dress, your veil? The options are endless, this work of art is completely bespoke, you have a hand in the design from start to finish and we can create almost anything.

All of my frames are made bespoke by Wax Frames, especially with your flowers in mind, so you can have any size you like. Would you like to have one frame that includes all the flowers from your bouquet? If so, I recommend a minimum size frame of 50cmX40cm, but you can go bigger for more impact or smaller for something dainty. Perhaps you’d like your bouquet, and other special flowers from your day, spread across three smaller frames instead?
Things to think about here are:
– Smaller frames may mean not being able to include the full bouquet.
– You could have multiple small frames to gift to family members.
– Large is a real statement piece to give the wow factor to your walls, just make sure you’ve got somewhere appropriate to hang it.

Frame colours and styles

Natural wood, white, black even? What colour frame would you like? Natural wood or off-white compliments all flowers beautifully and keeps that bridal aesthetic, but black will grab everyone’s attention and demand they look at your artwork, it really makes the flowers pop.
The style of the frame is something to consider as well, would you like a smooth, minimalistic frame or something with a little texture running around the mouldings? Perhaps a bevelled edge for something a little smoother?
If you really don’t know where to start then taking a look around your house is a good place – what sorts of frames have you already gone for? Do you have an eclectic mix of colours and styles or have you kept it simple with frames that match throughout your home?
Things to think about here are:
– Natural wood and an off-white background give a really clean finish and will sit nicely on any wall.
– Black is striking but also more likely to show up any dust on the glass.

An exceptional piece of artwork that is unique to you, and holds so many memories, is priceless. But everyone has a comfortable price range and so this is something to factor in.
You’ll find varying prices across this industry, because not all artwork is made equal.
So what can you expect to pay when you have your bouquet preserved with me?
(Hint, it’s that annoying answer: It Depends! But I will give you an example).

This piece is £450.
Let me break it down.

What you get:
– A complimentary consultation where we discuss your ideas
– Regular communication throughout the process with updates
– I’ll personally collect your flowers from your location the day after your wedding (within an hour’s drive of Bruton) so you don’t need to worry about getting your flowers in the post ASAP or the hassle of finding a big enough box, or getting to post office etc.
– I photograph every angle of your flowers before deconstructing your bouquet to press or dry, and your flowers are handled with the utmost care
– Your bespoke frame is made with the highest quality materials: The backboard is always a PH neutral cotton board with amazing colour fastness, the mouldings are locally sourced and made with solid wood, the glass is anti-reflective and has a UV filter, your frame is carefully constructed and sealed to eliminate dust (or mites) ever getting in, and the fixtures allow for an incredibly secure hanging frame that sits flush with the wall. All of these factors are to ensure your flowers last for a lifetime and beyond.
– Here is a great post about why frames can cost so much: How Much Does Picture Framing Cost which explains it so much better than I can, but varying costs can depend on things such as adding detail to the mouldings, choosing an extra large frame, whether I collect or you drop your flowers to me etc.
– Collection or delivery can be arranged at the time that suits you

That is what our conversation is for and what I am here to help with. Some people have seen exactly what they want and I make it, and some people know they want to keep their flowers but aren’t sure about the finer details.
If this is you, I have recommendations for frame styles and colours that will work in any house, with all flowers, and together we will create artwork you will love.
P.P.S. Didn’t think about preserving your bouquet at the time of your wedding but now you wish you could go back and have it framed? Do get in touch anyway – we can look through your wedding photos to determine the blooms in your bouquet, then I can source those flowers to create your framed floral artwork.
