Choosing your wedding florist can feel surprisingly overwhelming!
Flowers are such a visual and emotional part of your day, and many couples are unsure about where to start or how to narrow things down without spiralling into endless scrolling – how are you feeling about this right now?
Here’s a calm, considered way to choose the right florist for you, without overthinking it:
1. Start With Personal Recommendations
One of the best places to begin is with people you already trust.
Have you asked your family or friends – especially the ones recently married? And, better yet, did you go to their wedding and love the flowers? That trust factor is already built in.
You’ve seen their work in real life, not just styled shoots (which a huge proportion of Insta and Pinterest photos are…), and you know the couple had a positive experience.
Strong, enthusiastic recommendations are worth their weight in gold.

2. Google Florists Local To You Or Your Venue
Next, head to Google and search for:
“Wedding florist near me”
“Wedding florist near [insert your venue name here]”
*This is particularly important if you don’t live close to where you’re getting married.*
Many florists work regionally and know local venues well, which can make logistics, timings and setup far smoother.
If you have your heart set on a florist local to where you live, but you are travelling miles to your dream wedding venue, you may be landed with a few extra, possibly quite pricey, costs – things like extra travel costs, overnight stays (if it’s really far away), and additional labour fees.
Google will also show reviews, which can give you a broader picture of how a florist works behind the scenes.

3. Use Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok… Your SM Platform Of Choice… Intentionally
Social media is brilliant for discovering wedding florists, but try to scroll with purpose rather than endlessly saving everything.
Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok allow you to:
– See recent weddings and real client work
– Get a feel for colour palettes, scale and creativity, particularly if you can see your wedding venue in their photos.
– Notice how consistent their style is over time
– If a florist’s work makes you stop scrolling, that’s usually a good sign.

4. Now Look Closely At Their Photos
Have a good gander, not just a glance, and ask yourself:
Do I genuinely love their style knowing this is what my wedding could look like?
Does their work feel romantic, bold, wild, refined, playful [whatever style you’re drawn to]?
Are they posting regularly, within the last few weeks or months? (Summers are busy seasons for wedding suppliers and the most likely time they will have gaps in their posting schedules. We’re just so darn busy and knackered! So do give us some slack here, any posts in the last few months is good.
If their floristry style doesn’t align with your vision, it doesn’t mean they’re not good, just that they may not be the right fit for you.

5. Read TheL Website Copy
This matters more than you think, and a step many couples skip over – I know, I’m a real skim reader myself – but it’s important as it’ll give you a real insight into how that florist thinks and feels.
Read what they’ve written on their website carefully and ask yourself:
Do I like the tone?
Do I agree with what they stand for?
Does it feel good to read, or does something make me hesitate?
You’re not just booking flowers, you’re choosing a person you’ll collaborate with during an emotional, meaningful time. Emotional alignment really matters.
6. Look For Pricing Clues
Not all florists list prices and that’s okay. Flowers are highly bespoke and vary from couple to couple and it really truly depends on what each individual couple wants and how to make designs work within their budget.
However, it is helpful if a florist shares:
– A minimum spend
– Starting price guidance
– Clear explanations of how pricing works, for example: is labour calculated separately
– Maybe some example prices of popular designs
This helps you quickly understand whether their work fits with what you had in mind, without awkward conversations later.
- Did you know? I don’t have a minimum spend!
Instead, I have packages dependent on what your total quote is, and you can read more about this here: Prices and Packages

7. Choose Just Two Or Three Florists To Contact Initially
Save yourself the overwhelm.
Pick two or three florists who feel like a good fit and start there.
Arrange the phone calls or consultations and notice:
How comfortable you feel speaking to them
How clearly they explain their pricing and process
Whether you feel understood and listened to
If one feels right and the quote feels like something you’re happy to invest in then just go for it.
Trust that feeling.
If none feel quite right, then widen your search. There’s no rush, and you don’t need to speak to everyone at once.
8. What Not To Get Bogged Down With
Things you don’t need to worry about is: “Has this florist worked at my venue before?”
Why do I say this? I get asked this time and again but the honest answer is: It Doesn’t Matter.
There are 100’s of utterly incredible venues across Somerset and the South West, and I simply cannot have worked at them all – none of us can.
What matters is my approach to a new venue, if I haven’t worked somewhere before and I need to know the space I’m designing in, then I’ll arrange my own venue visit to measure up and get a feel for where I’m going.
I always make contact with venues ahead of a wedding to make sure I’ve got the right details for the coordinators, what times I’m allowed on site, set up and clear down rules, etc… it’s all covered. This is the last thing you need to think about.
So… Let’s recap:
– Get recommendations
– Google local florists
– Use social media with intention
– Look at their photos
– Read their website copy
– Look for price guidance
– Choose just 2 or 3 to start
Give yourself a chance, start early so you have plenty of time to dip your toes in slowly. And, when you’re ready, you can enquire with me for your wedding in the South West of England here – I can’t wait to chat about your wedding.
Esme x
